The Criterion Bar Association (Illinois, USA)

The Cri Bar (as it is known) began in 1972. Co-founded by Margaret Smedegaard, our coeducational scion of the Baker Street Irregulars was born as a reaction to the gender restrictions maintained by existing Chicago Sherlockian societies at that time. Our newsletter is called the Cri Bar Crier and contains articles of note, references to other Sherlockian groups and activities, a Sherlockian crossword, quizzes and details about upcoming meetings. We hold dinner meetings four times per year in which we offer toasts, sponsor lectures and presentations as well as discuss and debate all things Sherlock. We are especially proud to be currently celebrating our 40th year.

Our membership comes from all walks of life and many parts of the Chicagoland area — and beyond! We welcome all interested parties to join us in “the great game.”
